A trial of FidoLook

I don't expect a reply but I think this copy of my exchange with
David Lippman might be of some use to the authors of FidoLook.

My normal practice on newsgroups is to use a munged or obviously
incorrect e-mail address, so since my previous version of this
post has not appeared, I guess "use correct e-mail" means "use a
correct e-mail address". So I will try again.

Hi Dave!

I'm normally very reluctant to use betas but, given the helpful
conversation with you, I decided to try FidoLook. It really does
what you say and as is claimed on the Web Page and I like it!

However, I would suggest to the authors that they spend some
time integrating it into Windows like QuoteFix if they really
want people to try it. I felt myself blind-folded, crossing my
fingers, touching wood, hoping my last backup was good and
trusting in McAfee as I installed FidoLook :-) It is also
disconcerting to have a button for Help that behaves in a
non-standard fashion and then produces zilch (g)! I even had to
place a shortcut on the desktop myself for the program.

However, I do intend to use FidoLook for a week or two as my
normal entry to Outlook Express.

I see that my post has appeared and gmane seems to be a safe
news group in that the address of the poster is hidden. That
makes me feel a lot better about using my real address. Thanks

I can bet that QuoteFix doing more "dark magic" to archive desired
effect than FL do. In early days FL used the same methods to "integrate"
itself into OE. Those days are long gone now. The way to think about FL is
as program that uses OE components, not some code injected into OE process.
It's more like Maxthon or Advant browsers use IE engine.

That was and still is original concept that Fl doesn't replace/patch any
system files or registry. Only installation step required is extracting
files into any desirable folder.
